Relationship goals

I've seen the most beautiful examples this weekend of inspiring married relationships that have shown me glimpses into what's possible, and we're working hard to build in our own marriage.
The first is my aunt and uncle, who are serving a mission together in Ontario, Canada (they're actually leading a group of about 200 missionaries -- mostly 18-21 years old). The way they use their different strengths to compliment each other is truly remarkable, and it's been so fun to watch them infuse spiritual leadership with playfulness and fun.
The second is an adorable older couple (probably in their 80's) we sat behind at church today who were so clearly in love -- not in an infatuation kind of way; in a deep, into their souls, truly best friend kind of way. Their white hair matched in tone, and she'd put her arm around him and lean her head against his. My heart melted as she turned and whispered in his ear, and they smiled at each other in a way that told a million stories.
I spoke with the wife after the meeting and told her that I loved watching the two of them together. She thanked me and said, "During the meeting when they were talking about Jesus giving His life for us, I turned to my husband and said, 'You know, I would give my life for you.' and he told me, 'But then what would I do?'"
My heart melted even more!
I'm so grateful for these two beautiful examples of the love and bonding that happen when a couple is centered on God. It gives me hope and excitement for the beautiful future I'm building with my own amazing husband. All of these marriages face struggle, and allowing room for Christ to support them is what brings so much strength and beauty. The best, most rewarding kind of work.
