"Or" is old school

My client and now dear friend, Gail, has a fantastic new blog called "Real Talk." I'm thinking of adding a category with that name in her honor, and this will be its inaugural post.
For this post, I want you to imagine we're sitting down on the couch, face-to-face, and I'm speaking to you with all the love in my heart.
I think we need to change the way we think of the word career.
If you're like me, you grew up thinking you either had to choose a traditional career and have someone else care for your kids, or give up the idea of having a full-time career and choose either a part-time job or raising a family full-time instead. Either you were a "career" woman or a "stay at home" woman. Depending on which philosophy you adopted, either was a noble sacrifice.
I've decided not to subscribe, and I invite you to do the same.
Why?
Because the "or" mentality is old-school (think puffy bangs and shoulder pads). And I actually mean that literally -- because it actually did used to be the way women had to think.
Thanks to the geniuses behind the internet and a miraculous digital revolution, we all (moms, especially) now have an "and" solution available to us. Actually, a whole myriad of "and" solutions available to us, if we'll open our eyes and minds up.
I'm excited to share lots of examples of these solutions, from real-life women making their "ands" happen. In the meantime, just know that you always have options, and "and" is a great place to start exploring them.
