Labor

courage divinity fear personal growth productivity

It has been a big week for me on the development side for my new project. It's intense, but I really do feel it coming to life. Many parallels have come to mind between this work of mental/emotional labor and actual labor (which is definitely not on my mind because I saw the new Fantastic Four movie...).

Here's a list of parallels (which will likely become individual posts in the future) between creative labor and actual labor:

  • You don't want to do it, but you know it's the necessary step toward the bigger goal
  • It really helps if you have someone's hand to squeeze.
  • Babies start out growing in (relative) comfort. Our projects can do the same. Let them develop and don't force them. With proper conditions, they'll grow.
  • You don't have to broadcast every detail if that's not your thing
  • Birth is sacred -- both for actual birth, as well as bringing a new creation into the world.
  • This changes you. Deeply. You become a new creature. Be gentle.
  • Walking and music help you through the contractions
  • Each phase of the process is necessary and beautiful.
  • It's a birth. It's not gonna feel good.
  • Labor happens slowly, especially at the beginning. Leave space for it. No rush.

Wrapping up the final details of the first 2 areas to share with my beta group... I can't wait to get this baby out there.
