Backstory vs front-story

courage creativity faith freedom god personal growth potential trust

It's really easy to make decisions based on our backstory (who we were in the past). We have clear, often recent, evidence of what worked--or didn't work--for us and what we were capable of.

The problem with that, though, is there isn't room for much growth. Maybe we try to do a little better than we did before, but it's difficult to imagine much different.

On the other hand, if we take the harder path of making decisions based on our front-story (the future we want for ourselves), suddenly we have a lot more freedom to design and create. It takes imagination and faith, but there is unlimited possibility available.

Which story does God want to help you build from, and how can you partner in writing it?

Note: I learned about this "future self" idea from the book, Be Your Future Self Now. Highly recommend if you're looking for your next read!
