Moving through foggy times

Fog looks thick and mysterious when you first approach it. As you move forward a step at a time, your visibility is limited, but you can usually see at least a little way in front of you. And it turns out that's enough. A verse of a favorite hymn comes to mind when I think about this idea:

Lead, kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom;
Lead thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
Lead thou me on!
Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene—one step enough for me.

There are certainly times of clarity when we can choose our paths and design our journeys. But during the foggy times when -- due to circumstances outside of our own control -- uncertainty is all around, we can trust that God has a much greater, clearer view, and can lovingly guide us through it. If you feel like you're in a foggy phase, reach out your hand and let God help. He's ready to be your "kindly light," every time.
