Expression vs. performance

freedom

You can tell a real difference between someone performing, and someone expressing

Performing is fun to watch; expressing brings the viewer right into the moment.

Performing seeks to earn the attention; expressing doesn't care if it's there or not (and as a result, people can't look away).

Performing tries not to make a mistake; expressing lets it all show, even the flaws.

Performing is doing; expressing is being

Performing takes practice and disciplined rehearsal; expressing takes practice and constant release of fear, self-consciousness, and pride.

Performing earns applause; expressing inspires awe.

Performing can be replicated. Expressing is only native to the expresser.

We can either perform or express in our homes, jobs, church service, communities, friendships, and other areas of our lives. Both take energy... but one generates much more than the other.
