There is more than 1 type of dog

What if there was someone who told you they don't like dogs because they're small with super high-pitched barks?

Or what if someone else said they can't stand dogs because they're huge and slobbery?

They're speaking from real experience, but they're missing out on some great possibilities by using such narrow definitions.

There is more than 1 kind of dog.

There's even more than 2 types of dogs.

In fact, there are more types of dogs than we can even define. Breeds, blends of breeds, personalities, ages, conditioned responses to their surroundings... each dog -- even from the exact same litter -- is unique.

Humans are the same way.

I'm hearing a lot of dialogue lately about how "people who voted for ______" or "people who support _____ political party" are just clueless (I've heard people say this from both sides of the aisle).

Yes, maybe someone who voted for ____ is clueless about the things that are important to me. But I'd bet they have a lot of clues about the things that are important to them, and voted accordingly.

Just because one dog is small and yappy, or big and slobbery, doesn't mean all dogs are -- or even half of all dogs are. We naturally create more freedom in our lives when we resist the urge to generalize and slap labels on people. Let's get closer and try to learn as much as we can about as many different people as we can. We deserve better.
