Broken open

This weekend, our very curious and creative 6-year old got bored and figured out that she could break rocks open by throwing them really hard against a bigger one. She was so excited that she could "make crystals!"

Walking into church yesterday, she picked up a rock and turned it over in her hand. Examining it, she said something profound: "They're a lot more beautiful when they're broken open."

I thought about the most amazing people I know, and the challenges they've been through that have broken each of them open...and I had to agree with her.

The breaking process sure isn't fun... but because of it, the "crystals" inside of us sparkle beautifully when they reflect light. And the brighter the light, the more stunning the sparkle.

The most spiritually beautiful people I know have two things in common. They're broken open, and they're so close to Christ that His light reflects off of their every facet. I've described them as gems in the past...now I know why!

Just like Caitlyn's rocks, we're a lot more beautiful when we're broken open, especially as we stay close to Him.
