Welcome!
I'm so glad you're here!

My name is Shalon,

pronunciation: rhymes with 'salon'

and I'm on a (non-official) mission to help more LDS moms work from home.

To that end, content on this site is presented through my lens, of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

You'll specifically find a unique set of insights and resources centered on my core beliefs that:

  1. Motherhood is a sacred privilege & responsibility
  2. Each of us (as part of the human family) is a cherished child of Heavenly Parents, with the divine potential to become like Them
  3. Through the enabling power our Savior's Atonement, we are capable of growth and progress in our motherhood, our professional endeavors, and our personal development.

There's also a set of core truths that I've learned for myself, which I'll articulate before we get started:

  1. "Nurture" means and looks like lots of different things. A big part of it for me includes modeling personal growth through struggle and progress.
  2. "Working" can be defined in many different ways -- paid or unpaid.
  3. Each of our paths -- by design -- is different. I'm not here to cause guilt or shame, or to say there's "one right way." I'm here to offer my honest perspective on what options are available to moms who need it.

These truths have shaped my life and business in undeniable ways, and I'd be doing you a disservice to show up as anything less than who I really am and what I've really experienced. I'm sharing this right upfront so I don't have to
water anything down or beat around any bushes.

Sound good?
Let's dive in.

First thing's first.
Why Homemade Bread?

Let's be clear -- this is not a website about making actual bread at home (unless you're starting a baking business). I teach best in analogies, and this is the best one I could think of to describe the mess and magic of making "dough" from home while raising kids. My top 4 (+a bonus) reasons why:

1. It's MESSY.

There's no way around it -- this is not a clean process. Even with a stand mixer, you'll get flour on the counter and dough on your hands. So? We embrace the imperfection. Throw on an apron, roll up your sleeves, and embrace the magic in the mess. We can make this actually fun.

2. There are many different types.

Isn't it amazing that, with pretty much the same set of ingredients, you can adjust quantities and techniques to make countless types of bread? One might even say there's a plethora (name that movie) of bread types!

Working from home with kids is the same way. Learn the essential principles behind successful outcomes, and pick what makes sense for you.

3. It's (usually) not the M.C.O.*

*Most Convenient Option

We live in a world of quick and easy. This is neither of those. It takes intention, clarity, creativity, and dedication.

And the result is so rewarding.

Which brings us to...

4. You just.can't.
beat it.

Think of the smells that flow through every room of the house when a fresh loaf of bread or batch of cinnamon rolls is in the oven. Is there anything that can compare?

Think about taking that first warm, soft bite. Then sharing it with your loved ones.

Building a career -- or even just starting a side gig -- from home has the potential to create the same effect (not automatically, but with intention).

  • Your influence expands through each room of the house.
  • Your arms are open to the kid who needs a hug.
  • You catch the tiniest moments that only show themselves to those who are there to notice.

And you do it while growing your own skillset AND easing the financial burden for your family.

You just can't beat it.

5 (Bonus!). You don't have to invent your own recipes.

One great perk of this digital age is the existence of THOUSANDS of people who share how they got where they are, what they wish they had known when they started, and what to avoid to save yourself time, money, and energy. My hope with this project is to connect you with those (vetted and curated) resources, so you can put your time and energy into proven ideas and strategies.
