I am literally sitting in my bed right now. I just decided this is happening and it's not fancy, but it's happening. And how appropriate that this would be the way we started off. It just felt like it was time like now and here we go. So I wanted to share the story of where this came from, what it means. this is not about making actual bread at home unless that's what you're into. maybe that's what you're doing for a business. I don't know. I've heard of people doing like micro bakeries and that is so cool. I secretly want to have one from my front porch, but alas, I have to limit myself for the things I say yes to, but, maybe one day who knows, or maybe one of you will inspire me to do it sooner, but. anyway, I am just really passionate about helping moms work from home. especially Latter-day Saint moms. We have an added layer of commitment and complexity. when it comes to our church membership and our faith community, there is so much to enjoy and also a lot of expectation, I would say healthy expectation, but also like there's a lot of unhealthy expectation that we have to let go of in order to be successful, in what we are doing in various regards, right? Like motherhood, work, church, all of it. Like we have to let go of the unhealthy expectations and let ourselves be free to grow. So anyway, super passionate about helping women launch businesses, grow businesses, anywhere in between or on the motherhood side. I love helping moms enjoy motherhood more. I lost my own mother at a young age and so I feel very strongly about the impact of a mother. and the motherhood relationship that continues way beyond the grave and we'll get into that some more i'm sure but anyway that's why i'm here that's why i'm doing this it's really just To share stories and connect and offer whatever wisdom I've gleaned over the years. I've had my own business for the last 15 years. And no, longer than that because I don't know. Sorry. Yes. I've worked from home for going on 18 years now. I've had my own business for 15 years. There we go. That's better because I was like I was working from home when I was pregnant with my first. Anyway, that's what happened. I started my business a few years after I started working from home. And so I have a lot of different perspectives. I've worked for corporations. I've done my own thing. I've done a hybrid of that. So happy to weigh in on any questions or unique circumstances. I am here for it.
03:36
So why I've named this the Homemade Bread Society. Well, it started out being named Homemade Bread Society because I was focused on like oh, I'm going to talk about making dough from home. It was like a cute play on words, right? But as I grew this and started developing it, I realized, oh, wow, this goes deeper because working from home is great, but the why behind it is what's powerful. The why is that we're here to Be in the home and mother our children and do it in a way that actually brings them closer to Christ. So that's one way. And then also...
04:23
I thought of the parable of, not the parable, no, it was the story, right? The story, the miracle of the loaves and the fishes. And I watched that YouTube video. It was really popular by the director of The Chosen. What's his name? Dallas Jenkins. And I watched his talk and it just clicked for me. I was like, Oh my gosh, homemade bread society is our own contributions that we're offering to Christ for him to work his miracles with whatever he turns those into. Right? Like, and it's so true, like through my business and working from home for other corporations, I have been able to create relationships and create things that are 100% Christ has used to reach people and help people grow. So yeah, that's ultimately what this is about. We are women who are creating loaves—maybe whole loaves, maybe little tiny rolls, right? It all counts, but we're creating things for Jesus to multiply and to use, to feed people, to lift people, and to sustain people working His miracles. So anyway, that's what this is ultimately about. I am so excited to be here, so excited to do this. And you know what? Like bread is bread, right? Like it's made of very similar ingredients and those ingredients are applied in so many different ways, right? Like think about all the varieties of bread. I can't even name them. I did ask, I did ask chat GPT and it was like, thousands thousands of variations of bread that we can have and that's the same thing with us we all show up differently we all bring very similar ingredients right principles wise but they're applied in so different so many different ways and different techniques and that's what makes it special that's what makes it unique so
06:37
I can't wait to get to know you and to hear what you're up to, hear what you're dreaming about. Maybe you have a business. Maybe you've got a book. Maybe you've got little ones who demand all of your time and more and energy and more. All of us belong here and all of us have something to contribute. We're all working from home. We are all working from home. We all have jobs at home. Some of us are getting paid. to work from home by creating things and sharing them out in the world with dollars, getting paid with dollars, right? Others of us are getting paid in other ways. In the economics of heaven, there are so many ways of getting paid through connection, through memories, through Little tiny peanut butter and jelly kisses on the cheek, right? Like we get paid in so many ways through our... We are compensated in so many ways through our unpaid financially roles. So, and that's a no pun intended roles, like our R-O-L-E roles, right?
07:55
So I want you to, as your takeaway from this episode, start looking at the different ways you're getting paid. working from home. What are you doing to work from home and how are you getting paid? And, I'm going to do a whole other like separate episode on this, but I want to plant that seed and start, start thinking about it. Yeah. Okay.
08:25
So going into the homemade bread analogy, There are six different things I want to talk about.
08:36
I want to talk about number one, it's messy. There's no way around it. This is not a clean process. Even with the most fantastic machinery, you'll get flour on the counter, dough on your hands. The good news is perfection is not required. We don't have to clean up as we go, right? So embrace the imperfection. We wear aprons for a reason. Roll up your sleeves. Embrace the magic in the mess. And we're going to actually make this fun.
09:06
Number two, there are many different types of bread. I touched on this earlier. But it's amazing. It is really amazing how many different kinds of bread there are and how many different kinds of us there are. And maybe it looks like the majority of bread being made is similar or maybe not. Whatever it is, it's yours. And we have our unique loaves for a reason. And also, we're not limited to making one single type of bread. Like the bread is not us. The bread is what we're making, right? So you can make rye bread, wheat bread, French bread. It's so late. My brain is fried. But fry bread, right? So many different types of bread. Flour, water, flour. oil, salt, sometimes yeast. Voila. Combine your ingredients, make something magical, give it to Christ.
10:07
Number three, homemade bread is usually not the most convenient option, right? Like we can run to the store and grab a loaf of bread in so much less time than it takes to actually make a So we make this harder choice, right? Because we know that the trade-off is so rewarding. We have a whole house full of this glorious smell of homemade bread, right? When we choose to work from home. We choose to infuse our home with something more, something bigger, something more warm and rich. So it takes intention. It takes clarity. It takes creativity. It takes dedication over and over and over. And it takes focus on the result we're creating.
11:02
and that brings us to number four which is you just can't beat homemade bread sorry but the smells that flow through your entire house when that loaf of bread or the batch of cinnamon rolls is baking like nothing can compare sorry for my people who don't eat bread but this is an analogy right so step into a bakery you know even if you don't eat bread like you can smell it and it's glorious right so yeah making our home making our own loaves has the potential to really create the same effect And it's not automatically, right? It does take that intention, but your influence expands through each room of your house because each stretch outside of your comfort zone makes you expand your capacity. So you automatically expand. flow more through your house your arms and your heart are open to the kid either young or young at heart who needs a hug because you've slowed down enough to notice and to be there and that's a big deal in slowing down and choosing to be there you catch the tiniest moments that really only show themselves to those who are there to notice and they're just little teeny tiny glimpses and it just happens so fast but They build up and it's magical. It really does create something special. And all of this you're doing while you grow your own skill set and you're making the most meaningful connections that truly feed your soul. You just can't beat it.
12:41
Number five, you don't have to invent your own recipes. Thankfully, we are part of an amazing digital age where thousands of people have shared how they got where they are. So willing to help guide and give advice and share what to avoid to save us time, money, and energy. So my hope with this project is to connect us with each other. and put our time energy and energy into the proven ideas and the proven strategies instead of all of us spinning our wheels trying to invent fresh recipes because I love a good recipe in fact okay so there's a really great blog that I just discovered this is a total tangent but I have to share it it's called modern honey modern honey.com and like she's so good oh my gosh so So what brought me there, this is a total tangent, this is hilarious, what brought me there was I was looking for a recipe for Reese's Peanut Butter Cup cookies because I bought a ton of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups at Christmas time and they were about to expire. So yeah, I was searching and I found this one and the recipe was amazing. Oh my gosh. It was so good. so then I was like, well, what else does she have? And I tried her regular chocolate chip cookie recipe and money. So, so good. tried an Alfredo sauce recipe tonight. Again, solid. So good. Okay. Go to modernhoney.com. this episode is not sponsored by modernhoney.com, but you're welcome.
14:17
Okay, so number six, this is the best for last. There are miracles available through the bread of life, who is Jesus Christ. I have seen so many inexplainable miracles in my work at home life. Some are business related, some are motherhood related, and others are soul related. And those are the biggest ones where an opportunity has come at just the right time. And it was exactly what I needed. This has happened countless times in such beautiful ways. And the miracles have varied, but The common thread here is that they've come when I've chosen to trust and rely on my Savior. And without fail, He has been right there, right there by my side, showing me opportunities, encouraging me to take a leap again and again. comforting me when things haven't gone as I hoped for or planned, and then just constantly inviting me to something bigger and bigger and bigger and stretching me and just supporting me through all of it. And that has been hands down. the most beautiful part of all of this and it's why i'm so passionate and feel so strongly about sharing it out with you it's like getting paid to have personal development it's awesome and it's like getting paid to build a relationship with christ it's it's so good so amazing so that's why i'm here that's what we're doing
15:50
i do have my own business going on i have my own products that i have so i'll talk about those sometimes here but i am not here to sell them i will probably look at those as like a sponsorship or like an ad for episodes or whatever but Yeah, I am excited to learn and grow with you and to open my home and welcome you in. So sending you all the love. I'm happy you're here. You hear my tired voice now. But I had to get this out there. I had to have this happen tonight. So I'm not sorry. I'm not going to edit it. I'm not going to replace this. This is going to be the intro episode. And here we are. So, and I want you to show up the same. This is a community for imperfection and messiness and open hearts. So anyway, wishing you all the best.
16:58
And here's to you and your homemade breads.
